West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite praised as 'unusual dismissal' removes Mitchell Marsh

After questions were raised over his five slips tactic on day one, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite has been praised for a unique strategy to dismiss Mitchell Marsh.

Throughout his innings of five, seven balls came off the edge of Marsh's bat, with three in the lead up to his dismissal dropping short of the slips due to pitch conditions and Kemar Roach's pace.

Eventually, Justin Greaves was placed closer to the batter at third slip in a helmet.

Marsh again nicked off Roach's second delivery of his 11th over, with the ball falling short of Greaves.

The next ball Marsh was squared up with Greaves taking the catch low to the ground, Greaves' second of the match after helping dismiss Steve Smith on day one.

"Great bit of work with the helmet on so close, reaction time is not very long there, that's the second good catch he's taken," Mark Waugh said on Fox Cricket.

"It's an unusual dismissal because the ball actually angles in, it doesn't straighten.

"I don't know (if it's) the lack of pace, maybe it's Mitchell Marsh swiping with the pace not there that got that outside edge."

Cricket icon Kerry O'Keeffe was full of admiration for Brathwaite's innovation with Australia 5-129 after Marsh's departure.

"It was a tremendous strategy, with Kraigg Brathwaite having that shallow third slip, a pitch where it's not coming on he slices across the delivery, it was angled in but because of his slicing bat the outside edge was taken," he said.

"And Greaves with the helmet on there at a shallow third slip, very shallow, you don't often see that do you?"
