Matt Renshaw (4/10)
Fifty runs in two innings isn’t a great return. Did well to hold up an end in the first innings, but failed to fire in the second. His output in the second Test will be closely watched.
Peter Handscomb (4/10)
Scored 48 runs over his two innings. A decent effort but you won’t win many Test matches with that output from a No.5 batsmen. Is he Australia’s next Test keeper?
Glenn Maxwell (3/10)
Had the chance to stand up and show everyone he is worthy of batting in the top six in Test cricket in the second innings. The shot he played the first ball after the lunch break suggested otherwise. Only bowled 10 overs. Is he really a Test all-rounder?
Pat Cummins (6/10)
This wicket was never going to help his bowling. That made his three-wicket haul in the first innings worthy of praise. He’s not in the team for his batting, but the 58 runs he scored certainly helped. If Lyon and Hazlewood had stayed around he could have won the match.
Josh Hazlewood (3/10)
Didn’t cause many headaches in the first innings and then bowled just 25 balls in the second before injury struck. Heading home now might now be a bad thing – bowling another 30-odd overs in the second Test wouldn’t have done him much good.
