'He'll work it out': India's bowling coach backs Ravindra Jadeja despite lean day at the Gabba

When it comes to playing in India, Ravindra Jadeja is Australia's worst nightmare.

He takes wickets for fun and terrorises with bat and ball. A bowling average of 20.71 and reasonable batting average of 37.46 at home backs that up.

But at the Gabba on day two, the Aussies handled the left-arm spinner with ease.

Jadeja returned figures of 0-76 from his 16 overs after being called into the side following his omission for the first Test.

Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel admitted the day of bowling didn't go to plan for the spinner.

"Coming into this Test match, (he) hadn't had a lot of game time but he's also a guy who's taken a lot of Test wickets, he's a very experienced player but we also felt we wanted to bring in the left-arm option as something different," he told media on Sunday evening.

"(Jadeja) is a guy who can also offer us a lot with the bat, unfortunately today wasn't his day.

"As a spinner they're going to put you under a lot of pressure and it's in their game plan to put him under pressure to force us to bring back our main strike bowlers but (Jadeja) is a world class player and he'll work it out."

Prior to the Brisbane Test, Jadeja had played four times in Australia.

Across those Tests, he claimed wickets every time he bowled with best figures of 4-62 at the SCG in 2021.
