Yashasvi Jaiswal's stunning sledge towards Mitch Starc encapsulates India's day two domination

There was no rescuing Australia on day two as India's opening batting pair Yashasvi Jaiswal (90* off 193) and KL Rahul (62* off 153) put on an afternoon clinic in Perth.

After the hosts were bowled out for just 104, it was all on India's terms on day two, as they finished the afternoon 0-172.

And it was one bold act from Indian youngster Jaiswal that summed up the new-found confidence from the touring side.

During the 19th over at the crease, Jaiswal didn't hold back in letting Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc know exactly how he was faring in the second innings.

"You are coming too slow," Jaiswal said after Starc bowled.

Starc walked back to his mark with a grin on his face, but the pressure seemed to mount on Australia's bowlers from that moment, as the 22-year-old batter settled in.

By the 38th over, Jaiswal had his half-century off 123 deliveries - a complete shift from day one's proceedings, which saw Jaiswal removed for a duck by Starc.

And the pain kept on rolling for Australia, as Starc managed to force Jaiswal to knick the ball, which fell just centimetres short of Usman Khawaja's hands in the 41st over.

"That's catchable," Mark Waugh said on Fox Cricket.

"You've got to move forward. That's a catch, I'm putting that down as a catch. By anyone's standards. You can see his weight is back. He took a long time to look at it."

The very next ball of the next over, the Aussies again missed a chance, failing to run out Rahul as Steve Smith's throw went wide of the stumps.

Rahul would go on to also notch up his fifty in the 48th over.

The pair finished the day with a 172-run partnership off 345 deliveries.

Earlier in the day, as Australia entered the crease sitting uncomfortably on 7-67, it was left up to the tail-end to salvage a respectable score.

Starc managed to score 26 off 112, while Alex Carey had 21 off 31 deliveries.

Australia's bowlers struggled with a flattening Optus Stadium pitch, as India's batters put on a patient and methodical display that wore down the hosts.

At stumps on day two, India lead the Aussies by a mammoth 218 runs.
