'Hard to believe': Humble Travis Head wins 2025 Allan Border Medal after stellar season across all formats

Australian batter Travis Head has been crowned the 2025 Allan Border Medal winner.

He played nine Tests for 636 runs, five ODIs at a strike rate of 120 and 15 T20Is for 539 runs, capping off a stellar season across all formats of the game.

He gave a thumbs up and cheers from Sri Lanka, after being presented with his medal by Australian coach Andrew McDonald, ahead of the second Test, that starts on Thursday.

The 31-year-old was humble in his acceptance.

"It's been nice to come close and not win it a few times, because this is not my forte," Head laughed.

"It's pretty hard to believe, it's been a good year so very pleased with how the team has gone and very pleased I've been able to fit in somewhat.

"I do a role and I'm lucky that I play a few formats as well so it's been an enjoyable year."

And while he admitted the individual honours are not why he plays the game, the batter reflected kindly on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy win on home soil as his season highlight.

"Hard not to go by the summer we've just had against India," Head said.

"They've played exceptionally well the last couple of times against us, and to be able to contribute to that one and get the win will go down as one of the better ones."

Head took home the award after polling 208 votes, beating out Josh Hazlewood with 158 votes and Test skipper Pat Cummins, who polled 147 votes.

The veteran also took home the award for Men's ODI Player of the Year.

Fast bowler teammates Josh Hazlewood was crowned the Men's Test Player of the Year, while Adam Zampa won T20 International Player of the Year.
