West Coast has received pick No.2 as compensation from the AFL ahead of Oscar Allen's move to Brisbane, reports AFL Media's Cal Twomey.

Triple All-Australian Clayton Oliver will be "fired up" to show the Demons what they're missing when he lands at his new club, says Melbourne great Garry Lyon.

Oliver is a live trade option for the third year in a row after Melbourne told him he was free to negotiate with other clubs despite being contracted until the end of 2030.

Both GWS and Collingwood are in talks with the 2021 Demons premiership-winner.

Lyon, a former Melbourne captain, said on SEN radio this afternoon that the Demons' push to get rid of Oliver had fuelled his hunger ... which is not surprising.

"I think, in fact I know, he's nicely fired up to prove the Demons wrong [about] their attitude and willingness to have him go out and look," Lyon said.

"I think wherever he ends up, they're going to get a very highly motivated Clayton Oliver. I don't think there's any doubt about that."

Jack Silvagni only joined St Kilda last week — but Sam Flanders has revealed the former Blue played a role in luring him to the Saints.

It was confirmed today that Flanders had secured a trade from Gold Coast to St Kilda, with the Suns receiving the Saints' pick No.7 in return.

Flanders said he had talked with Silvagni, Ross Lyon, Corey Enright, Graeme Allan, Stephen Silvagni, Marcus Windhager and Bradley Hill in coming to his decision.

"It was a great crew and ... from the initial meeting it was a great connection. So, that was one of the contributing factors to why I chose the Saints," Flanders said on AFL Trade Radio.

Flanders also said that, unsurprisingly, the prospect of playing alongside superstar midfielder Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera was enticing.

"Nas staying, like, he's a superstar, one of the best in the comp," Flanders said.

"So for him to stay, he sees something there, and [I] can't wait to work alongside him."

Flanders had reportedly also been in talks with Melbourne and Essendon.

The talented utility, who hails from Fish Creek in Victoria's Gippsland region, played 89 senior games with the Suns after arriving on the Gold Coast via pick No.11 in the 2019 draft.

Port Adelaide star Zak Butters has been spotted training in Melbourne with Carlton development coach Torin Baker on Wednesday, according to The Age.

Baker has been at the Blues for a number of years now, and Carlton no doubt is among the teams interested in luring the Power star home.

Port is adamant they won't trade the star midfielder this year, given he is contracted for 2026, but Butters has indicated to them his desire to return to Victoria.

Baker was Butters' coach as a junior at the Western Jets. The Age's Andrew Wu reports that the session was not organised by Carlton.

AFL player agent Liam Pickering still sees forward Will Hayward as someone who could be a key piece of a Charlie Curnow trade.

"He's been the one mooted. Carlton was interested in him last year," Pickering told Trade Radio.

Of course, they would need to throw in multiple first round picks, and probably more players to get Carlton to blink on a trade for the contracted superstar.

Ollie Florent is another player who has been linked, while the Swans seem unwilling to part with A-graders like Errol Gulden and Nick Blakey.

New St Kilda midfielder Sam Flanders has provided some insight into his decision to leave Gold Coast and join the Saints.

"It's been a crazy couple of weeks. Obviously a lot of mixed emotions," he told Trade Radio.

"I think Gold Coast are definitely heading in the right direction. The main reason was opportunity. I see myself more as an inside midfielder and the Suns have one of the best midfielders in the comp.

"Bigger thing for me was around opportunity and to get back to friends and family was a factor as well."

Gold Coast received pick seven as compensation from St Kilda for Flanders.
