Ross Lyon abruptly cut his weekly press conference short after insisting he is unaware of player unrest and has had enough discussing the club's list management.

In a press conference that lasted just under six minutes, Lyon doubled down on reports the Saints are making a $25m play for Harley Reid before admitting his joy that the club could retain playmaker Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera.

But when questions turned to discussions around the off-contract Marcus Windhager, the Saints coach had had enough.

On Monday, SEN reported that Windhager could be one of many players to depart in the off-season as he continues to weigh up offers from rival clubs.

Key defender Callum Wilkie, Rowan Marshall and Jack Steele were also said to depart.

Lyon denied such reports on Nine's Footy Classified on Tuesday evening, admitting Wilkie had informed him he had "never entertained leaving St Kilda".

Then on Wednesday, he questioned the credibility of such reports about Wilkie.

"You know it's not true. Nothing to get upset about," Lyon said.

"Locker rooms don't talk ... every club is in the market. I have heard the same noise."

Lyon then asked if the same nature of list management questions were being asked by journalists working with Collingwood coach Craig McRae.

"Do you walk into McRae and ask him the same questions?" Lyon said.

"What did he say? Ah, you haven't asked him yet. OK, so after you go and ask him, come back and ask me.

"I talk to my players every day but they are private conversations," he continued.

"There's disenchantment with me. They said: 'Ross, you can be a bit lighter, move a bit quicker, have some exciting training drills for us?'

"Nothing frustrates me, to be honest. I'm not here for the laundry list of half-baked stories. There's not much credibility to it."

Asked for clarity around the 12-year proposal to sign Reid, Lyon said it was "garbage."

"I have never spoken to Harley Reid."

"I am not sure what was done," he continued when asked if the club's list management had tabled a deal to Reid's management.

"I don't get on my phone and go on X and listen to garbage being reported with no rigour."

Returning to questions about Windhager, who has been in strong form this season, Lyon made his stance clear.

"To be honest, I feel like I sat on a national show last night that you guys all seemed to enjoy," Lyon said.

"My position hasn't changed. I am here to coach against Essendon. In the fullness of time, hopefully, we have really positive announcements.

"Can I just put an over-arching statement? I am not here to list management, pre-game, going into a Friday game. That's not why we called this presser.

"That's where you are heading again. I am not really prepared to dive into individuals that are either contracted or are out. Enough is enough, to be honest. Thanks guys."
