Brisbane Lions defender Dayne Zorko has been slapped with a $3000 fine for his comments made towards bench officials in the final term against the Western Bulldogs.

The AFL confirmed Zorko was pinged for his "use of insulting and profane language" that was aimed towards the officials bench as he was exited the field of play.

It is unclear what the exact comment Zorko made at the time.

However, the AFL reiterated their strong stance on such behaviours unfolding.

"The AFL reminds all players that the AFL has no tolerance for abusive or insulting conduct towards umpires and other match officials," a statement wrote.

The off-field incident was not the only concern for Zorko in that match as he was taken from the field with a suspected ankle injury in the first quarter.

He later returned in the second quarter with a strapped ankle where he then copped a boot to the face and was forced to exit the field once again.

After being taped up for the second time, Zorko returned in style to finish with 25 disposals, one behind and eight marks.

The Lions went on to win the match 12.14 (86) to 12.4 (76).

Still, his on-field troubles saw him sent for scans by the club as he was experiencing foot soreness, but he was cleared of any concern.

Zorko will return to play on Saturday when the Lions face the God Coast Suns.
