Brownlow Medal live updates: Daicos dominating as Heeney climbs leaderboard

Last year’s winner Matt Rowell – who polled 39 votes mind you – is nowhere to be seen in the counting tonight.

He has five votes.

Yes, the Suns had a poor year and he missed a few games, but it’s a significant drop off that sums up their season.

Last year felt out of the box, and this year seems to be proving it. Daicos likely would have won last year if not for Rowell’s voting flurry.

Another three votes for Nick Daicos, just as Zak Butters pulled closer again.

You have to wonder whether umpires gaining access to the stats has just inflated votes going to the players winning the most ball.

It’s also removed some of the howler votes that were always funny, like the Petracca-Nasiah situation last year.

Let’s go back to how it was.

Currently, he is only three clear of Marcus Bontempelli and Bailey Smith, but he will poll better than anyone from here and fly home.

Every chance he breaks the all-time record of 45 votes held by Carlton captain Patrick Cripps.

Isaac Heeney is polling well and sits equal fourth, but certainly won’t poll well enough to out-pace Nick Daicos from here.

So at the very least, the league’s worst case scenario is not going to happen.

Sydney CEO Matthew Pavlich was slated to accept the award had Heeney won.
