Women weaker, less intelligent than men, says Polish MP

A Polish politician has argued against wage equality in the European Parliament by declaring that women are weaker, smaller and less intelligent than men.

Other members of the European Parliament scoffed and gasped when Polish MEP Janusz Ryszard Korwin-Mikke made the outrageous claims.

"Of course women must earn less than men, because they are weaker, they are smaller, they are less intelligent, they must earn less," he said.

The bowtie-wearing Korwin-Mikke cited the fact there were no women in the top 100 chess players in the world as evidence of male superiority.

Spanish MEP Iratxe Garcia-Perez immediately took to the microphone to rebuke him.

"I know that it hurts you and bothers you that today women can sit in the House to represent citizens with the same rights as you," she said.

"I am here to defend all European women from men like you."

The European Parliament is now discussing whether to reprimand Korwin-Mikke with a fine or temporary suspension.

But this is hardly the first time Korwin-Mikke has drawn controversy for his statements.

He previously called for rape trials to require two witnesses for the prosecution because women frequently pretend not to want to have sex.

He also said it should not be a crime to create or view child pornography.

He also insinuated that Adolf Hitler was not aware of the Holocaust and did a Nazi salute to protest the EU introducing a uniform public transport ticket.

The right-wing libertarian has served in the European Parliament since 2014.
