'I'm being sued for $10,000': One man's regret after being sued for standing woman up on date

An American woman has come under fire after suing a man for $USD10,000 (approx. $14,452) after he stood her up on a date.

In September 2020, QaShontae Short filed a lawsuit against Richard Jordan after he failed to show up to their date.

Short claimed the incident caused her emotional distress as the date had fallen on her late mother's birthday, per USA Today.

In footage obtained by Fox News, the virtual court proceedings were carried out and things became heated when Short started to school the judge overseeing the trial.

Things started off rather comically as the Judge, Herman Marable Jr, addressed the defendant, Jordan, asking him if he was representing himself.

"To be honest with you, sir, I thought this was just going to be thrown out," Jordan replied.

"We had a date – one date – and nothing else after that and now I'm being sued for $10,000. I don't think this is going to go any further, and I think it's a waste of your time."

As the clip continues, Short becomes infuriated when the judge informs her she filed the lawsuit in the wrong court, saying she should have filed it in a "circuit court."

"If he responds and his response is a lie, then it's perjury, and my documents would prove it's a lie," Short shouted at the judge in response.

A confused judge then replied, "No, no, no... Do you understand what perjury is?"

"Please do not insult my intelligence. Do not do that," Short clapped back. "As if I don't understand what 'perjury' means."

As the situation started to grow out of hand, the judge was heard shouting "be quiet" before requesting Short be muted.

Meanwhile, Jordan was seen cradling his head in his hands – seemingly regretting his decision to even say yes to a date in the first place.

The case eventually concluded – after a lot of chaos – when the judge referred the case to circuit court.

"Bottom line is, you said it's a criminal offense, so I will send it to circuit court," the judge told Short.

"Are we done here? Are we done here? Are we done here?"
