Thousands are lining up for hours in Melbourne to see a flower that smells like rotten fish
Usually, it tends to be human nature that if something smells like rotting flesh or rotten fish, we steer clear. But not today.
Thousands have lined up in Melbourne to catch a glimpse – and a whiff – of the Corpse Flower.
For the first time in a decade, the Corpse Flower is in bloom, attracting visitors from far and wide who want to torture themselves.

See, the thing is that the Corpse Flower doesn't just have a grim name, it also has a grim scent.
Radio host Lauren Phillips visited the flower at the Geelong Botanic Gardens, telling Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo that lucky for her, the plant wasn't "at peak stink."
"Last night apparently it was peak stink and it smelt like rotten animals," she shared.
"Now it's more like rotting fish, dead possums. It's much prettier than it smells."
A live stream was set up online for those unable to see the once-in-a-decade event in person, and for those able to attend, the greenhouse was kept open overnight for full viewing potential.
"People were lining up for four hours to get a whiff of this thing," Phillips laughed.
"And I think I've been here slightly too long which is worrying me because I'm getting used to the smell. But it lets off these little tufts of stink every now and then and it's quite repulsive."
But it seems that not everyone got the experience they were hoping for when visiting the Corpse Flower.

Several creators on TikTok shared their trip to the Geelong Botanic Gardens online. They lined up and waited hours just to find out that the flower doesn't actually smell as bad as they thought it would.
"I have bad news, it didn't smell like anything when I got there," said TikToker, Ericka.
"I guess it like emits the smell every few hours and I just missed the window. So it didn't smell like anything it just smelt like a greenhouse."
