Sophie Delezio's private struggle during childbirth: 'My son was born in my most hated space in the world'

Sophie Delezio has opened up about how her traumatic childhood experiences affected the moment she welcomed her son into the world.

The 24-year-old welcomed her first child, Frankie, in September 2024 with her husband Joseph Salerno.

In a new interview, Delezio, who was injured in two separate car accidents by the age of five, revealed she experienced PTSD symptoms while in the delivery room.

"'PTSD, to me, comes out in mysterious ways," she told The Canberra Times.

She said it's not like what you see in the movies, adding, "For me, it was facing an operating theatre."

"So with a rush of adrenaline and some Taylor Swift songs playing in the background, my son was born in my most hated space in the world."

Delezio required an unplanned caesarean section to deliver Frankie.

The two-time car crash survivor noted the medical team's kindness and her husband's support helped her through the birth.

In 2003, when Delezio was two years old, a car crashed through the window of her daycare centre, trapping her underneath the rubble.

She suffered burns to 85 per cent of her body in the tragedy, which also claimed both of her feet, a few of her fingers and her right ear.

Three years later, she was struck by a car while she was near her home in Sydney, the impact throwing her 18 metres out of her wheelchair.

It left her with a broken jaw, broken collarbone, nine broken ribs, punctured lungs, two fractured vertebrae and a brain injury.

In May, Delezio took to Instagram for parenting advice, telling her 367,000 followers her son cries all day.

She confessed to being in a constant state of "exhaustion" in an Instagram story, asking for ways to find the energy to keep going.

"To all the mums out there, how do you cope when you're feeling run down and just a bit exhausted?" she asked.

"How do you keep your child entertained?

"I have to provide top-tier entertainment. Otherwise, there are going to be many tears. And to be honest, probably from both of us. How?"

Ever since her survival story made headlines in 2003, Australia has rallied around Delezio and has kept up to date with her life.

She married Salerno, her childhood sweetheart, in a Hunter Valley wedding earlier this year.
