'My children don't want me to date'

When I first separated from my former husband in February of this year, dating was the last thing on my mind.

Anyone who has gone through a breakup knows how painful it can be.

My ex and I had been together for almost 20 years, and the last time I'd dated was when I was in my early twenties.

Two decades later and I have three incredible children, an amazing new home, family, friends and a dream job.

Dating was the last thing on my mind.

Which is why I wrote an article explaining why I wouldn't even consider it for at least five years. I even quoted a psychologist -- colleague and friend Sandy Rea -- who said it was best to take my time and get to know myself first.

I wish I could sneak back into that article and change the word 'years' to 'months' because that's how long it took for me to start feeling like I was ready to dip my toe back into the dating pool.

I wasn't looking for a relationship, just someone to hang out with, whose company I enjoyed, who also understood that my time would be limited.

Then my son, and my daughter, pulled me aside and made what I feel is slightly unfair request.
