Love Stories: Snowboarder Scotty James has his brother-in-law to thank for his romance with Chloe Stroll

He's an Aussie Winter Olympian and she's a singer-songwriter related to two of the biggest names in Formula One racing.

Scotty James and Chloe Stroll met in 2019 when her brother, F1 driver Lance Stroll, set them up.

Stroll, the daughter of billionaire racing team part-owner Lawrence Stroll, and snowboarder James married in 2023 and welcomed their first child son Leo, in 2024.

Now, James has the eyes of Australia on him once again as he competes at Milano Cortina 2026, his fifth time at The Winter Olympics.

The snowboarder has a silver and a bronze medal under his belt from previous years, and is hoping to complete the set with a gold this year.

As James gears up to take on the halfpipe at Livigno Snow Park, let's take a look at his relationship with Stroll, their star-studded wedding and what is next for the couple.

Scotty James was born in Melbourne, Victoria, on July 6, 1994. His parents introduced him to the snow at the age of two, with James and his older brother Tim learning to snowboard and ski on trips to Mt Buller in Victoria.

At 14, he made his international debut at the 2008 Europa Cup in Switzerland.

By 15, he became Australia's youngest male Olympian in 50 years and was the youngest male competitor at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Since then, he has continued to compete in the halfpipe and slopestyle events, winning two Olympic medals, nine X Games medals and three World Halfpipe Championship gold medals.

Meanwhile, Chloe Stroll was born Chloe Strulovitch in Canada on April 11, 1995. Her father, Lawrence Stroll, is a part-owner of the Aston Martin Formula One racing team and is reported to have a net worth of almost $6 billion.

His wealth came largely from fashion – his father brought the Pierre Cardin and Ralph Lauren brands to Canada before Stroll invested in the brands Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors.

Her younger brother, Lance Stroll, drives for his father's team.

Stroll is a singer-songwriter who released her first single, Surrender, in 2012. She has since released a number of other singles.

'I just found the guy you're going to marry'

James dated US model/surfer/snowboarder Ivy Miller from 2016 to 2018. He reportedly met Stroll the following year.

Who reported in 2023 that the pair were first introduced in 2019 by Lance, according to an interview with the Herald Sun.

"Lance actually called me and said, 'I think I just found the guy you're going to marry'," she said.

"It was kind of strange. I had a conference in Park City [Utah], which was where his next competition was the same weekend and a lot of random things happened.

"Scotty was very cute. We dated for about four months, or as he likes to say, we got to know each other, before he officially asked me to be his girlfriend."

James said in the same interview the two first connected in New York.

"[I] went out to dinner with her at a place called Motel Morris in Chelsea and the rest is history."

By January 2020, she was travelling to be by his side on the snowboarding competition circuit and was there to congratulate him when he won gold at the X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

A new chapter

The two become engaged in November 2021, and married in Italy in May 2023.

The wedding was a star-studded affair with Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones on the guest list alongside Sarah, Duchess of York.

F1 stars were also present, including Aussie driver Daniel Ricciardo, who was a groomsman. He was accompanied by girlfriend, Heidi Berger.

Also there was Channel 7 presenter Sam Mac, the longtime love of James' sister Rebecca.

In an Instagram post on June 7, 2024, Stroll revealed she and James were expecting their first child.

"This is not a Dad joke…" she wrote alongside a carousel of photos of the couple alongside a growing bump.

They welcomed their son Leo Harry James in October that year.

Power couple

James's net worth is not known, but he has had a number of lucrative deals with various sponsors, including Red Bull.

He and Stroll reportedly live in Monaco, to be close to training grounds in Switzerland and the French Alps.

Stroll often shares snippets of their life together on her Instagram account, which is full of snaps of their travels to lavish locations including Cannes, France, and Venice, Italy.

While James continues to compete on the world stage, he is beginning to look to a life after professional snowboarding.

According to a June 2024 article with The CEO Magazine, James is exploring the world of entrepreneurship as an investor and strategic advisor for X Games (a series of action sports events).

He is also a content creator and a children's book author.
