TV sisterhood comes out in support of Sam Armytage

Lisa Wilkinson has taken to Twitter to show her support for Sunrise's Sam Armytage after Daily Mail Australia published a story criticising the TV host's "giant granny pants" — as Armytage reveals that she's taking legal action.

Wilkinson — who presents rival breakfast show, TODAY —  tweeted "Has 'reporting' really stooped to this level?" less than 24 hours after the Mail faced a backlash on social media for posting paparazzi pics of Armytage running errands with the headline: "Sunrise host Sam Armytage dares to bare with giant granny pants showing a visible line as she steps out in Sydney."

Armytage has since told Buzzfeed that "she won't be making any comment [on the story] as it's with the lawyers".

And Wilkinson isn't the only one to publicly voice her disdain. Bec Judd has also spoken out, posting a screengrab of today's Herald Sun article written by columnist Wendy Tuohy on Instagram. In the piece, Tuohy calls out media companies like the Mail for "an endless stream of sewage" which shows "how much it despises women". The mum-of-four's caption summed up how many women felt when reading the story yesterday.

And Logie-winning actress Rebecca Gibney is on Armytage's side too. She posted this tongue-in-cheek selfie on Instagram, directly addressing the Mail.

Twitter users rushed to the Sunrise host's defence yesterday afternoon, with many branding the article "pervy body shaming".

The piece also referred to rumours currently circulating about her love life — something the TV star was quick to deny on Instagram before this story was even written.
