The Duchess of York has made her first appearance in the Royal Box at Wimbledon in more than 30 years.

Sarah, who is affectionately known as 'Fergie', accompanied her eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, to day one of the competition at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Monday.

The 65-year-old watched on as defending men's champion Carlos Alcaraz took on Fabio Fognini on Centre Court.

The last time the Duchess of York was seen in the prestigious Royal Box was in 1988 when she attended Wimbledon with her then-sister-in-law Diana, Princess of Wales.

The inclusion of the duchess in the enclosure is the latest in a number of royal events she has attended in recent years, including Easter at Windsor Castle in April and Royal Ascot in June.

She also joined the King and Queen on Christmas Day at Sandringham in 2023 following a near 30-year absence.

Princess Beatrice's husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, is currently in Sydney visiting the harbourside location of a new luxury development by his company, Banda Property.

The Princess of Wales, who is patron of the All England Club, is expected to attend Wimbledon at least once across the two-week event.

Catherine is a regular fixture at the tournament and is usually on-hand to present the trophies to both the men's and women's champions.

Last year she attended with daughter Princess Charlotte and her sister Pippa. It was just Kate's second official public appearance of 2024, following her cancer diagnosis months earlier.

The Princess of Wales recently pulled out of attending Royal Ascot despite her name being on the list of royals attending day two of the meet.

Her absence followed a busy week of appearances, including Trooping the Colour and Garter Day.
