Matthew McConaughey praised for sweet gesture to Kate Middleton when he saw her at Wimbledon

Matthew McConaughey has been labelled a "gentleman" after his respectful behaviour towards the Prince and Princess of Wales at Wimbledon.

McConaughey, 55, attended the men's singles finals of the tennis tournament on July 13 with his wife Camila Alves, and were seated when the royals arrived.

Prince William led the way, followed by the couple's children Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 10, with the Princess of Wales following her children.

As soon as McConaughey spotted the royals, he stood up and remained standing until the family had taken their seats.

McConaughey also joined the crowd who were applauding their arrival.

His respectful behaviour was noticed and praised on social media, with clips of the moment shared on X.

"Yes, he has lovely manners," another said.

"McConaughey surely respects everyone he encounters," one X user wrote, while another said, "He's incredibly lovely, such a good guy."

"Matthew was raised right, something I have always admired," one commented.

Another pointed out McConaughey was one of many standing and applauding the royal's arrival.

Although being seated in the Royal Box alongside members of the British royal family and the likes of tennis greats like Andrew Agassi was clearly appreciated by the Hollywood actor.

McConaughey wore a white suit and shirt with green tie for the prestigious event, with his wife chose a pair of white flared trousers with a chic jacket.

The couple also attended the women's singles finals the day before.

The Princess of Wales is patron of the of the All England Club where Wimbledon is held, a position she has held since 2016.

As part of her role, the royal attends the women's and men's finals and hands out the winners trophies on Centre Court.

Kate's arrival was met with standing ovations each time, and fans call out to the royal, including one who shouted: "We love you Kate" ahead of her awarding the women's trophy, earning him a smile and a wave.
