All the royals Princess Charlotte has been compared to, from Prince William to the Queen Mother

Any time new photos of Princess Charlotte emerge, one particular topic of conversation also inevitably raises its head: which royal relative she most closely resembles.

While her little brother Prince Louis has seemingly drawn all his genetic material from the Middleton side of the family (Catherine has even joked he's the "only one" of her three children to look like her), Charlotte tends to skew towards her paternal line.

Since she was born, the daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton has been compared to various members of the Windsor and Spencer families, including the late Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana, and more extended relatives like Lady Kitty Spencer.

Prince George

Of course, siblings are expected to look like each other but this is just uncanny.

Royal fans have put pictures of Princess Charlotte's tenth birthday picture alongside that of her older brother Prince George's ninth birthday picture, finding them to be an exact match!

From the blonde hair to the crinkle-eyed smile, blushing cheeks, tilted head pose and toothy grin, these two heirs to the throne look absolutely identical.

Prince William

There's no point in denying Charlotte is her father's spitting image – especially when you look at photos of the Prince of Wales as a little boy.

While she has darker hair, the little princess has inherited her dad's face shape, features and expressions, right down to the close-lipped smile and tilted-down chin.

Even William has mistaken a photo of himself (in fact, the same one we've used above) for his daughter.

"Oh my goodness, that looks just like Charlotte," he remarked during a royal engagement in 2019, where local bakers had adorned cupcakes with photos of William and Kate as children.

"It looks so much like Charlotte, that's so funny," the Princess of Wales agreed.

Lady Sarah Chatto

In more recent years, many commenters on social media have pointed out Charlotte's resemblance to Lady Sarah Chatto, the daughter of Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones.

These comparisons surfaced again during her appearances for Christmas 2022, including a carols service hosted by her mother Kate on December 15.

In her burgundy coat, Charlotte looked similar to Sarah when she marked Christmas at Windsor Castle (pictured above) in 1969.

Similar comparisons were made about the two photos below; both young royals are dressed and have their hair styled similarly, and have a similar expression on their faces.

Queen Elizabeth

With the adorable royal wave she's had perfected since she could walk, Princess Charlotte seems like a queen-in-waiting.

However, she also looks a great deal like the late Queen, her great-grandmother.

Photos of Her Majesty as a little girl are reminiscent of Charlotte, with the pair sharing remarkably similar eyes, expressions and dare we say it... attitude.

At third in the line of succession, it's unlikely Charlotte will follow in her late "gan gan"'s footsteps and assume the throne.

However, she'll always be the queen of our hearts.

Princess Diana

Sadly, the Cambridge children will never have the joy of meeting their late grandmother – but Charlotte has certainly inherited some of Diana's physical features.

The resemblance is as much about Charlotte's facial expressions as it is about her looks.

Just like William, Charlotte is often seen tilting her face down, a trademark of the woman once nicknamed "Shy Di" by tabloids.

She also channels an impish energy, much like Diana did.

Lady Kitty Spencer

If we needed any further proof the Spencer genes are strong in little Charlotte, it's Lady Kitty Spencer – Princess Diana's niece.

As an adult, Lady Kitty doesn't look remarkably similar to her cousin William's daughter.

But when the fashion model shared a 'throwback' photo of herself as a schoolgirl on Instagram, the post was flooded with comments about how similar she looked to Charlotte.

If you ask us, it's all in the hairline, the brow, and the cheeky expression.

The Queen Mother

Royal fans have also likened Charlotte to her great-great grandmother Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

Comparisons were made when photos were released for her fourth birthday in May 2019, showing the little princess sitting demurely in the grounds of Anmer Hall, the Cambridges' country home.

A photo of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon at a similar age quickly did the rounds on social media; Charlotte clearly inherited her square jawline from Her Majesty's late mother.
