Crown Prince Al Hussein and Princess Rajwa welcome first child, daughter Princess Iman bint Al Hussein

The Jordanian royal family are celebrating after the birth of a new princess.

Crown Prince Al Hussein and Princess Rajwa welcomed their first child on Saturday, according to the Royal Hashemite Court, which made the official announcement.

The future king, 30, proudly shared video and photos cradling his newborn daughter, named Princess Iman bint Al Hussein, with a smile beaming across the new dad's face.

It wasn't long before the proud grandparents and new aunties and uncles arrived at King Hussein Medical Centre in Amman to meet the newest royal family member.

"Praise be to God for his abundant blessings," Crown Prince Hussein captioned a photo of his family cooing around the newborn.

"We are immensely grateful for the safe birth of our daughter and the health of my beloved wife, Rajwa.

"Our heartfelt thanks to our family and the Jordanian people for their kind wishes, which deeply touched us during these special moments."

King Abdullah, 62, and Queen Rania, 53, were seen looking ecstatic as they held their first grandchild, the daughter of their eldest son.

The mother-of-four shared the intimate family photos on social media.

"Iman, you've already got a hold of my heart. Our family has never been happier," Queen Rania told her 10.2 million Instagram followers.

The carousel of images also showed shots of new aunts Princess Iman, 27, and Princess Salma, 23, holding their niece, while new uncle Prince Hashem, 19, looked on.

The little princess doesn't immediately join her father in the line of succession, with the Jordanian constitution currently only recognising male heirs.

Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa, 30, married in a grand ceremony in May 2023 and announced their pregnancy just shy of a year later, in April 2024.

"Their Royal Highnesses are immensely overjoyed and thankful on welcoming their firstborn," the official announcement of their daughter's birth said.

The couple said they were calling "on well-wishers to consider donating to Al-Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans in lieu of sending gifts or flowers".

The photos from inside the hospital maternity ward mark a stark contrast to the newborn shots we're used to seeing from royal families.

The British royals perhaps most famously pose for shutterbugs outside hospital, on the way home, as did Australian-born Princess Mary - who is now Queen of Denmark.
