'Love your outfit': Lip reader reveals the royals' small talk is just as mundane as ours

As it turns out, for all their fanfare, the royals are also not immune to dull small talk at family events.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's attendance at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in London was intended to be low-key, with the couple only making one formal appearance during the weekend of festivities.

Naturally, this appearance at the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral on Friday was heavily scrutinised – from what they were wearing, to where they were sitting and how the crowd reacted to their presence.

But one 'lip-reading expert' insists that when it came to their conversations, nothing of note happened between the Sussexes and other members of the royal family, much to the disappointment of feud-watchers.

In fact, it was almost like any family event a commoner might attend, where one can expect to see their extended relatives and engage in conversations limited to safe and, dare we say it, aggressively dry topics.

Lip reader Juliet Sullivan said the Sussexes exchanged polite small talk about the weather, each other's outfits, and the cathedral's architecture with other guests.

"Good morning. Nice to see you...Thank you, the weather has been kind to us...Yes we shall go in," Harry, 37, said to the Archbishop just before they walked into the church for the service, according to Sullivan.

"I've never been here, it's beautiful," Meghan, 40, reportedly said.

During the hour-long service, at one point, it appeared the Sussexes may have discussed something of substance – Harry and Meghan briefly spoke with each other and Meghan laughed, but Sullivan says not to get your hopes up. The conversation was purely about logistics.

"So when we go...and then we have to… that's together..." Sullivan says Harry said to his wife.

"Yes," Meghan reportedly responded as she nodded, before saying something "should be fun" and laughing.

The most riveting snippets of conversation seemed to occur when the Sussexes posed for photos with Zara and Mike Tindall after the service had concluded.

"Hi, here we are, let's wait here for the car," Harry said, per Sullivan, to which his cousin Zara replied, "Which one is your car?"

"Aaahhh it's the Range Rover," Harry said, and Meghan then said, "Aaah yes there it is, the Range Rover, it's right there."

Harry then seemed to take this opportunity to compliment Zara on her outfit, which was a hot pink coat dress in a similar style to Meghan's cream-coloured ensemble.

"Love your outfit. I didn't know what colors you would wear – blue, pink, orange," Harry reportedly said, to which Zara giggled.

Meghan, according to what Sullivan told the Daily Mail, then said: "You look great."

So there you have it – if only this lip-reader was a fly on the wall during the Sussexes' secret talks with Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
