A who's who of Queen Elizabeth's eight grandchildren as they prepare to stand vigil at her coffin

Queen Elizabeth's grandchildren will stand vigil around the late monarch's coffin on Saturday night, at the invitation of King Charles III.

In a mark of respect, the eight royals who called Her Majesty "Granny" will surround their grandmother's coffin as it sits on the purple catafalque inside Westminster Hall for 15 minutes.

And for the two youngest members - Lady Louise and brother James - it will be their most prominent royal role yet.

Here is everything you need to know about the kids of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's four children:

Peter Phillips

The Queen's eldest grandchild, Peter Phillips, is the son of Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips.

Born in November 1977, it's understood the Princess Royal didn't want titles for her children and wanted them to have a normal upbringing - so Her Majesty's grandson is not a prince.

Peter married Canadian management consultant Autumn Kelly in 2008, with the couple welcoming daughters Savannah and Isla in 2010 and 2012, respectively.

In February 2020 Peter became the first of the Queen's grandchildren to get divorced, with the couple announcing their separation, confirming they'd split quietly a year earlier. They officially divorced in June 2021.

Zara Tindall

Princess Anne gave birth to her second child and the Queen's first granddaughter, Zara Phillips, in May 1981.

Again, the Princess Royal declined a title for her child so Zara is not a Princess.

Zara and the Queen had a close relationship, bonding over their love of horses, with Zara going on to become an Olympic medal-winning equestrian for Team GB.

The Queen's eldest granddaughter married rugby union player Mike Tindall in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2011 and the couple now have three children – daughters Mia and Lena as well as son Lucas, who was born just weeks before Prince Philip died in 2021.

Prince William

The new Prince of Wales was born to Prince Charles and Princess Diana inside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in June 1982.

Prince William became the first direct heir to the throne to be born in a hospital.

Growing up, the future King studied at boarding school Eton College near Windsor before going to university at St Andrews in Scotland, where he met his future wife.

Prince William married Kate Middleton in April 2011 in a grand service at Westminster Abbey.

After the wedding the couple started their lives together privately in Anglesey, Wales – where Prince William, a member of the Royal Air Force, served as a member of the Air Ambulance – before moving to London to start their lives as full-time senior working royals in 2013.

The couple, who are now the Prince and Princess of Wales, have three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis - who all take their place in the line of succession.

Prince Harry

Prince William's younger brother, Prince Harry, was born at the same hospital in September 1984.

Just like his older sibling he studied at Eton College before joining the army and taking part in two tours of Afghanistan.

After his decade of service in the army, Harry created the Invictus Games - similar to the Paralympics but for wounded servicemen and women to take part in around the globe.

Harry married American actress Meghan Markle in 2018 at St George's Chapel in Windsor, where they became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

After welcoming eldest son Archie in 2019, the couple stepped away from their roles as senior working royals in 2020 to pursue their own independent projects Stateside.

Following a devastating miscarriage in late 2020, the couple welcomed daughter Lilibet – named in honour of the Queen – in June 2021.

Princess Beatrice

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson welcomed their first child, Princess Beatrice, in London on 08/08/88.

The Queen's granddaughter grew up largely out of the spotlight but is understood to have been very close to Elizabeth II.

For her 2020 wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Beatrice borrowed one of her grandmother's vintage dresses as her bridal gown.

On marrying the property developer, Beatrice became the first royal step-mum to Edo's son Christopher 'Wolfie' Woolf.

The couple then welcomed their first child together, with Sienna born in September 2021 - the last of the Queen's great-grandchildren she would have got the chance to meet before her death in September 2022.

As now ninth in line to the throne, Beatrice has been able to keep a regular job as a business consultant while stepping in for royal duties as required.

Princess Eugenie

The Duke and Duchess of York welcomed their second daughter in March 1990.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie grew up as tight-knit sisters given their closeness in age – something that remains today, as they share selfies together across social media and champion each other's causes.

While assisting her parents and grandparents with royal duties as required, Princess Eugenie has spent years working in the art world. More recently, the royal has been campaigning for anti-slavery and trafficking regulations as well as environmental causes.

In 2018 Eugenie married her long-time love, Jack Brooksbank, in a lavish Windsor ceremony and the couple welcomed their first child, August, in February 2021.

Lady Louise Windsor

Queen Elizabeth's youngest son, Prince Edward, and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex welcomed daughter Lady Louise in November 2003 in a dramatic delivery.

The Countess was rushed to hospital for an emergency caesarean section with the royal baby born four weeks premature and Prince Edward's wife coming close to death with internal bleeding.

Edward and Sophie, like Princess Anne didn't want royal titles for their children so instead of Prince and Princess, the kids are Lady and Viscount.

However, after their 18th birthday the pair are able to elect to take the Prince or Princess title if they wish but Lady Louise has not yet changed her name after turning 18 in 2021.

The teenager is just embarking on the start of university and is following in her cousin's famous footsteps by going to the University of St Andrews, with the school year officially kicking off days just days after her grandmother's death.

James, Viscount Severn

The youngest of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's grandkids is James, Viscount Severn.

He was born to Edward and Sophie in December 2007 and has spent most of his life firmly out of the spotlight.

Now, in the aftermath of his grandmother's death, the 14-year-old will take a public role by taking part in the vigil at Westminster Hall.
