Prince William pays tribute to 'Grannie': 'She was by my side during the saddest days of my life'
Prince William has released his first statement since the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, referencing her support following Princess Diana's death.
In a statement posted online, the Prince of Wales mentioned what a great source of support his grandmother had been to him.
"On Thursday, the world lost an extraordinary leader. I, however, have lost a grandmother," he wrote.
"And while I will grieve her loss, I also feel incredibly grateful. I have had the benefit of The Queen's wisdom and reassurance into my fifth decade."

The Prince also seemingly mentioned the passing of his mother, Diana, and the love his grandmother showed him in those tough times.
"She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life," he said.
"I knew this day would come, but it will be some time before the reality of life without Grannie will truly feel real.
"My grandmother famously said that grief was the price we pay for love. All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen."

Commenters were moved by the new Prince of Wales' "lovely" words.
"Queen Elizabeth II will continue to live in our hearts," wrote one supporter.
"So beautifully said," said another.
"We always knew we could count on you William," said one well-wisher.
As the royal family comes to terms with the loss of their matriarch, it seems family bonds are being repaired, with Prince William extending an olive branch to his brother, Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan.

Along with his own wife, Kate, the two couples were spotted on a walkabout outside of Windsor Castle to speak with mourners and look at the flowers and tributes left for the Queen.
One young girl even reached out to hug the Duchess of Sussex to "welcome" her to the UK.
