'Delighted' Queen seen for first time since latest royal baby announcement

Queen Elizabeth has been seen hours after news her granddaughter Princess Beatrice is expecting her first child.

The monarch, who was "delighted" by the news, was straight to work following the announcement of the latest royal baby, who will be Her Majesty's 12th great-grandchild.

The 95-year-old conducted two virtual audiences from Windsor Castle on Wednesday.

The Queen received the new ambassador from Argentina, Javier Esteban Figueroa, along with minister Alessandra Viggiano Marra.

Her Majesty also received Ralph Goodale upon his appointment as High Commissioner for Canada in London.

The monarch appeared to be wearing a blue floral frock for her video link appearances at Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth officially returned to work three weeks ago following the death of Prince Philip on April 9.

Today's royal baby announcement will be some welcome good news for the widow, who also lost her new dorgi puppy this week.

It's somewhat of a baby-boom for the House of Windsor in 2021, with Princess Beatrice expecting the fourth newborn this year.

Younger sister Princess Eugenie welcomed her first child in February, with her husband Jack Brooksbank.

Princess Anne's daughter Zara welcoming her third child with husband Mike Tindall in March.

Both Eugenie and Zara had baby boys and honoured their grandfather by giving their sons the middle name Philip.

The Queen's grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who today mark their third wedding anniversary, are also about to welcome a new baby, with their daughter due in June.

Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi will be expecting their child in the UK autumn, between September and November.

The Queen and Princess Beatrice are said to be very close and the 32-year-old even borrowed her grandmother's vintage Norman Hartnell dress for her nuptials.

While saying "I do" at a secret wedding held at Royal Chapel of All Saints in Great Windsor Park on July 17 last year, the bride sported the remodelled gown, which Her Majesty wore in 1961.

Hartnell also designed the Queen's Coronation gown.

Beatrice chose to wed in the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara, which was also on loan from Her Majesty, and was the very same tiara Queen Elizabeth had worn on her own wedding day in 1947.

Her Majesty was also straight back to work hours after Beatrice and Edo's nuptials, knighting the late Captain Tom Moore in the grounds of Windsor Castle later that day.
