Denmark's parliament, known as Folketinget, is located within Christiansborg Palace on the island of Slotsholmen in Copenhagen.

The opening of parliament is a tradition upheld by the Danish royals annually, where they listen to Prime Minister Minister Mette Frederiksen's speech, heralding in a new political year.

It takes place on the first Tuesday of October and marks the start of the new legislative year.

Mary's outfit for today's event included a special touch to her former homeland, choosing a navy blazer by Australian label Scanlan and Theodore.

The 49-year-old has worn the crepe-knit jacket on many occasions and the burgundy version was worn by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, during her visit to Sydney for the Invictus Games in 2018.

Pinned to Mary's jacket was a golden brooch featuring what appears to be a large amethyst or garnet in its centre.

She accessorised with a burgundy clutch, heels and hat all in the same shades.

The opening of parliament is always a stylish affair and last year Mary wore another Australian-designed blazer by Willow, a piece she has also worn many times before.

In 2019, Mary was likened to former US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy due to her 1960s inspired outfit and pillbox hat.

Princess Mary and her family have been busy of late, attending a number of official events across Denmark.

She has only just returned from Lithuania following a short visit to mark the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The working tour say Mary bring out some of her most stylish day dresses, including a red frock by Dolce and Gabbana, a cream midi-dress by Mark Kenly Domino Tan and an electric blue number from Cult Gaia.

All outfits were repeats from Mary's extensive wardrobe, proving her commitment to sustainable fashion and upcycling rather than constantly investing in new pieces.

Last month Mary travelled to Italy for Milan Design Week, where the focus was on sustainable solutions in design and architecture with Mary representing Denmark's interests in the sector.
