Powerful image of Princess Eugenie released ahead of documentary

A new photo of Princess Eugenie has been released ahead of a documentary set to air later this month on free-to-air TV.

Eugenie, 34, features in the documentary called My National Gallery for the National Gallery's bicentenary. The film will air on ITV in the UK on December 30, having been released in cinemas in the UK earlier this year and on the National Gallery website.

In the photo that has been released, the royal is posing alongside a piece of artwork that features in the documentary.

Eugenie currently works as a director for the art gallery Hauser & Wirth in London which features contemporary and modern art. She has been in the position since 2015.

Also featuring in the documentary, broadcaster and writer Claudia Winkleman, actor and comedian Michael Palin and novelist Jacqueline Wilson.

Each discusses their favourite paintings and why they mean so much to them.

Of the documentary, ITV's Jo Clinton-Davis said: "We are delighted to have such a great film about the National Gallery on its 200th birthday. A real Christmas treat like last year's Vermeer – the Greatest Exhibition".

Eugenie first shared her involvement in the project on social media in May. At the time she discussed her choice of painting, Correggio's 'The Madonna of the Basket.'

"I'm Eugenie and I work at Hauser & Wirth, a contemporary gallery in London," she said in the clip.

"I did art at school, I always wanted to be an artist," she continued. "I remember going to National Gallery and just sitting and drawing and now when I go around a gallery I see all the young people doing that and I'm like, 'I used to do that' and I wish I could find my drawings from those moments where I was a student right in the front studying and looking and learning all about history and art.

"I've chosen Correggio 'Madonna of the Basket' and it's from 1524," she says. "I see a lot of similarities with this and my life," she explained.

"I've just had a second child and my little baby's 10 months. Correggio is painting a very domestic scene. This is a normal domestic family. Who knows it's journey its been on, how it got to us, but it's here and and we're able to admire it."

Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank are parents to two boys, August, three and Ernest, one.

Alongside this post, Eugenie wrote: "I am so excited to be involved with the @nationalgallery 'exhibition on screen' where I share about my love, for not only, history and art as whole but also the gorgeous Madonna of the Basket painting by Antonio da Correggio.

"My National Gallery comes to cinemas around the world on 4th June and is a new film by @exhibitiononscreen in partnership with the @nationalgallery to celebrate the Gallery's anniversary."
