In a video shared on the royal's social media accounts, we see William with The Passage's head chef Claudette Hawkins, who was also celebrating her birthday that day.

"Come on birthday girl," William said, reaching for a hug before adding, "I won't ask you what birthday it is."

The video showed volunteers preparing the Christmas-style meal which included turkey, vegetables, cranberry sauce and all the trimmings.

William seemed familiar with some of the attendees, with one asking the royal: "Did you hear I'm getting married?" He confirmed he had heard and offered his congratulations.

"Thank you to Claudette and the incredible volunteers who dedicate their time to supporting those experiencing homelessness. The selflessness and compassion shown in creating a warm and welcoming space during the festive season makes a profound difference," he added.

The Passage is one of two homeless charities supported by Prince William and of which he is patron. He also supports Centrepoint, having visited the latter with his mother, the late Princess Diana.

"I remember at the time kind of thinking, 'Well, if everyone's not got a home, they're all going to be really sad.'

"But it was incredible how happy an environment it was."

Earlier in the year Prince William attended the Centrepoint Awards in London along with relatives from his mother's side of the family including socialite cousins, Lady Kitty Spencer, Lady Amelia Spencer and Lady Eliza Spencer.

The royal nieces were dressed to the nines for the prestigious event, choosing complementary gowns based on an ice blue palette.

As Centrepoint's Patron for almost 20 years, it has always been a great privilege to meet the young people that they, and their partners, support," Prince William said at the event.

"You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.

"What inspires me the most about the young people here this evening is that they have not only overcome homelessness to achieve their personal ambitions, but they are also all contributing to the communities in which they live — be that through teaching, fundraising or volunteering."
