The late Princess Diana's philanthropic legacy is still inspiring her son.

In a new documentary trailer, Prince William has said he took "inspiration and guidance" from his mother's work to end homelessness.

The Prince of Wales appears in the upcoming ITV documentary Prince William: We Can End Homelessness as part of the The Royal Foundation's participation in the Homewards UK program.

"I've slowly tried to work out what can I bring to the role and the platform that I have," William said at the beginning of the short video.

"I have taken some inspiration and guidance from what my mother did, particularly with homelessness."

Later in the trailer, William spoke to former English football player Fara Williams about her experiencing homelessness while playing professionally.

"You played for England and Chelsea whilst you were homeless," he said.

"I don't believe we should be living with homelessness in the 21st century."

It will show exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the first year of the Homewards program since its launch last year.

The initiative was announced in 2023 by The Royal Foundation, the Prince and Princess of Wales' charity, with a five-year plan to "demonstrate that it's possible to end homelessness".

Speaking at the launch of the program, William shared how his experience growing up with his mother shaped his passion for philanthropy.

The late Princess Diana was renowned for her charitable work, particularly in working to eradicate homelessness in the UK. She would often take William and his brother Prince Harry to visit homeless shelters when they were young.

"My first visit to a homelessness shelter was when I was 11 with my mother," William shared at the Mosaic Clubhouse.

"The visits we made, left a deep and lasting impression," he added.

"I met so many extraordinary people and listened to so many heart-breaking personal stories. Too many people have found themselves without a stable and permanent place to call home."
