Prince William's emotional admission about his late grandparents: 'It's been quite a bit of change'

The Prince of Wales says visiting Windsor Castle makes him miss his grandparents even more, revealing that since their deaths his family had experienced "quite a bit of change".

Prince William made the comments while touring the castle with Canadian actor Eugene Levy for his travel show.

Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh relocated to Windsor Castle in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic, from London, making the change permanent in 2022.

The late Queen and Prince Philip spent their final years at the castle in Berkshire, with the duke passing away in April 2021 and the his wife in September 2022.

"I do miss my grandmother, and my grandfather," Prince William told Levy in an episode of The Reluctant Traveller on Apple TV+.

"It's been quite a bit of change, so… you think about them not being here any more, and particularly being in Windsor – for me, Windsor is her.

"She loved it here, she spent most of her time here. Showing you around today is very much a case of trying to make sure I'm doing it in the way she'd want you to see it."

Prince William walked Levy through the castle, talking about its history and connection with the royal family.

During the tour, Prince William joked: "We provide this service for everyone. We do personalised tours everywhere."

The episode, entitled Living The Royal Life In The UK, airs on October 3.

Prince William and Levy, who stars in Schitt's Creek and American Pie, then walked through the gardens of Windsor Castle where the prince spoke of his grandmother's passion for horses.

He said: "She had her horses here as well – as you can imagine, that was a big deal for her, so that's why she loved it here."

Windsor Castle has been a royal residence for 955 years and is the largest occupied castle in the world.

The late Queen and Prince Philip were both laid to rest inside St George's Chapel on the castle grounds.

After touring the castle, Levy went for a walk with Prince William and his dog and asked him what he does when he is at home.

Prince William laughed and replied: "Sleep. When you have three small children, sleep is an important part of my life."

Elsewhere in the episode, which was filmed in February, Prince William and Levy have a beer at the pub.

In an emotional moment, seen in the trailer shared earlier this week, Prince William opened up about how 2024 was the "hardest year I've ever had".

"Life is said to test us as well and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are," Prince William told Levy.

Last year both King Charles and the Princess of Wales were diagnosed with cancer, following separate and unrelated surgical procedures.

In a television appearance to promote the return of his travel show – which is in its third season – Levy spoke about filming the episode with Prince William and described him as "an amazing guy to hang with".

He also revealed Prince William's appearance was kept secret from him until the moment the royal appeared in front of the cameras.

"It was a total surprise," Levy told NBC's Today with Jenna & Friends.

"I found out on camera when we were shooting the episode."

He added: "We always knew what we were doing in London – we were trying to experience, to come as close to the monarchy in London as we could, go to the places where they would frequent, shop at the shops where they would shop, and taking a tour of Windsor Castle but had no idea that the guy taking me on a tour of Windsor Castle was the prince."

In the episode, Prince William is seen greeting Levy in the castle's quadrangle, arriving on an electric scooter.
