All the defining photos of the British royal family in 2025
2024 was an undoubtedly turbulent year for the British royals, with three members undergoing treatment for cancer – causing the "slimmed-down monarchy" to come into play – and more controversy surrounding Prince Andrew.
2025 has brought far less twists and turns, with King Charles and Catherine, the Princess of Wales well and truly back in the swing of royal duties.
We've seen the arrival of a new family member in the form of Princess Beatrice's second daughter, and Prince George taking on his most significant royal engagement to date.
Meanwhile, over the pond, Prince Harry and Meghan have embarked on the new chapter of their US pursuits, with the Duchess of Sussex dropping her long-awaited Netflix series With Love, Meghan and lifestyle brand As ever, along with a new podcast, and Harry surprising the world with a new bombshell TV interview.

King Charles returns to work, September
King Charles has joked about getting old, telling a fellow cancer patient that "bits don't work so well once you get past 70".
The monarch, who will celebrate his 77th birthday in November, was visiting a new hospital in the West Midlands on September 3 when he made the comment.
It was the King's first engagement since holidaying at Balmoral Castle in Scotland with the extended royal family.
The King is still undergoing regular treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, following his diagnosis in February last year.
He had surgery for a benign prostate enlargement and the cancer was detected soon after. But Buckingham Palace has confirmed the King was not diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The monarch has been carrying out a full diary of events since taking a brief break from public duties in the weeks after his diagnosis.
Speaking to patients on Wednesday, the monarch told one that he was feeling "not too bad" and that half the problem of the disease is "detecting it in time".
He added: "The great thing I think is they're getting better and better at dealing with these things. The trouble is there's always hope down the road."
Charles met Jacqueline Page, 85, from Birmingham who told the King she was "wearing out".
He responded: "Well, this is the terrible thing, as I'm discovering already, bits don't work so well do they once you get past 70".
Catherine's 'new hair', August
The Princess of Wales is no stranger to her hair making headlines, so this one shouldn't shock us.
When Kate, William and the kids made their way to a church service at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral, cameras captured the princess with what appeared to be a significantly lighter hair colour.
Cue: plenty of debate about whether Kate really had gone blonder or if it was just a trick of the light.
If you ask us, there are at least some bold new highlights, if not a full head of colour.
Princess Anne's birthday photo, August
The Princess Royal has appeared in a new portrait released to mark her 75th birthday on August 15.
Taken by John Swannell, the photo shows Princess Anne at her home, Gatcombe Park, wearing a royal blue and white dress.
A father-daughter day at the football, July
July 27 saw Princess Charlotte mark a personal milestone: her first individual overseas trip with dad Prince William.
The pair travelled to Basel, Switzerland for the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 Final match between England and Spain.
Charlotte looked delighted to be watching the action in person.
Like father, like daughter!
Charlotte joined her father on the field at St. Jakob-Park after the game, with the pair presented with some winners medals to keep.
