Prince William accuses The Crown of using his parents' marriage to 'make money'

Prince William has reportedly spoken out against TV series The Crown, accusing it of using his parent's marriage "to make money".

Daily Mirror Royal Editor Russell Myers spoke about Prince William's reaction to the series on ITV, saying William has become more distressed as the public reacts to the latest season of the popular TV series which chronicles the breakdown of the marriage of Charles and Diana.

"There's been a lot written over the last few days since the season aired," he said. "The Crown has come out with a huge fanfare, and furore as well really. There are a lot of historical inaccuracies in this version of The Crown."

He spoke about the discrepancies between real life and the fictional series, saying The Crown writer Peter Morgan admitted to having used "artistic license in a lot of the scenes."

"He has imagined how the scenes played out," Myers said. "Certainly I can't imagine William will be watching."

Myers said William previously told friends he believed The Crown series is "not a very fair depiction of his father or his parents' marriage".

"He said that it was a simplistic way to make money, apparently."

Myers repeated the claim Prince Charles has decided not to watch it and speculated the royal family will be concerned about how they are portrayed.

"Also Charles has told friends that he won't be watching it," he said. "The depiction of Charles and Diana's marriage is particularly worrying for the Royal Family.

"I don't think they will be part of the 80 million people tuning in for the next couple of weeks."
