The Prince of Wales is well versed at dealing with members of the public during royal events but as the father-of-three would know, children can be unpredictable – and blunt.

Prince William was meeting a group of schoolchildren during recent outing in Liverpool when he was stopped by a young boy named Mohammed.

Video has emerged of the encounter, taken in January on a particularly chilly day, and shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Prince William was approaching the crowd to shake hands with those who had braved the cold to see him when he was stopped by the young boy.

"Are you the King?" the child is heard saying to William, who quickly answers "No, I am not, no, I am his son".

The Prince of Wales then asks the boy his name and enquires about his day at school.

In November, 2023, during a visit to Burghead Primary School in Moray, Scotland, Prince William was asked his age.

When he turned the question back onto the children by asking them how old they thought he was, their response was "57", to which William said: "I'm not that old!".

Another student at the same school then asked the Princess of Wales who she was and she replied, "I'm married to William", pointing to her husband.

Kate was also asked about her age during a visit to the Young V&A museum in January, 2023.

She whispered to the little girl who had asked: "I'm 41, don't tell anyone".

And in 2021, during a visit to Scotland, Kate dealt with her young fans in the most adorable way when one confused boy asked if she was, in fact, a prince.

"Are you a prince?" one child asked Kate, as she and William made their way through the crowds.

Kate shook her head and said, "I'm not a prince. I'm the Duchess of Cambridge. Lots of people call me Catherine."

Another child – a little girl – then shouted: "She's a princess".

Kate asked her, "Are you? Are you a princess?"

But the child shook her head and said no, to which Kate replied, "Aww, you look like one in your beautiful pink coat".
