Prince William is reportedly coping "remarkably well" amid his family's health crises, according to a friend of the royal.

The Prince of Wales has been keeping up a busy schedule since news broke that wife Catherine, the Princess of Wales would undergo planned abdominal surgery and then his father King Charles was diagnosed with cancer following a prostate procedure.

"He is coping remarkably well considering his wife had surgery and he only found out his father's news recently," the royal insider told People.

Prince William was able to step back from royal duties while Catherine, 42, was in hospital at The London Clinic for two weeks before returning home to Adelaide Cottage to continue her recovery.

At the same time King Charles underwent a procedure to treat a benign enlarged prostate before his cancer was discovered.

Prince William, 41, was seen driving to The London Clinic during this time and helped care for the couple's three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8 and Prince Louis, 5, who attend nearby Lambrook School.

Prince William has since carried out investiture ceremonies on behalf of the monarchy. One of these recipients, Susan Taylor, who received an MBE for her work in rugby league of which the Princess of Wales is patron, told People: "It is a difficult time for him, but it wasn't spoken about. With all the royals it is stiff upper lip and duty as normal, isn't it?"
