Prince William and Prince Harry to be separated during Prince Philip's funeral procession

Prince William and Prince Harry will be reunited in public for the first time in more than a year this weekend.

The Duke of Sussex flew into the UK from his new home of Los Angeles last Sunday to attend Prince Philip's funeral.

But as the feuding brothers walk behind their grandfather's coffin this Saturday, they will be separated by their older cousin, Peter Phillips.

Buckingham Palace today announced new details for the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral, including where members of the family will walk during the procession of the coffin from Windsor Castle to St George's Chapel.

Princess Anne will walk beside Prince Charles, with younger siblings Prince Edward and Prince Andrew behind them.

In the third line will be Prince Harry, Peter Phillips and Prince William — with Princess Anne's eldest child placed between the brothers, minimising the chance of any awkward moments.

Princess Anne's husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, will be in the procession behind them, alongside Princess Margaret's son (and the Queen's nephew) David Armstrong-Jones, The Earl of Snowdon.

Prince Philip's personal protection officer, private secretary, two pages and two valets will form the last three lines in the procession.

Relations between Princes William and Harry have been strained for the last couple of years, made worse by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, where Harry said his brother and father were "trapped" by their roles in the monarchy.

The Duke of Sussex also accused the British Royal Family of racism, which prompted a fiery retort from Prince William.

"We are very much not a racist family," the Duke of Cambridge told reporters days after the interview aired.

It's understood the princes have spoken on the phone since Harry arrived back to his UK home of Frogmore Cottage earlier this week.

Royal commentator Katie Nicholl told 9Honey earlier this week it was hoped the 36-year-old would be able to meet with his father, Prince Charles, and brother before the service on Saturday afternoon.

"I think that is the hope because obviously the eyes of the world are going to be on them Saturday, so there is the hope that they'll get the chance to see each other before the public appearance," she said.

But, Nicholl re-iterates: "It's a tight window."

The Duke of Sussex is currently isolating, as per the UK's current coronavirus guidelines.

On Day 5 of this quarantine he can take a COVID-19 test and if it comes up negative, he can end his quarantine stint before the full 10-day period ends.

Prince Harry's fifth day in the UK will be Friday, leaving little time for catch-ups before the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral at 3pm on Saturday.
