'A significant gesture': Prince Harry's peace offering before returning to London

The Duke of Sussex is returning to the UK in late September, just weeks after his PR representatives met with the King's team.

In the wake of that meeting, Prince Harry has now decided to share his diary of official engagements with Buckingham Palace to avoid clashes and to potentially pave the way for a reunion, according to reports.

The move could also avoid Prince Harry and Meghan's outings overshadowing those of the royal family's, which has lead to tensions in the past.

When the duke travels to London in September, he is due to attend the WellChild Awards – a charity he's been patron of since 2007 and one of a few patronages he was able to retain after stepping back as a senior working royal in 2020.

He'll also carry out a number of other, yet to be announced, charity events.

Prince Harry's visit will no doubt raise questions of whether he'll be able to see his father, King Charles.

They were last in the same room in February, 2024, just hours after the monarch made public his cancer diagnosis with Prince Harry flying from California to see him.

But that catch-up is said to have lasted just 45 minutes.

In May, Prince Harry told the BBC: "I don't know how much longer my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile."

In a bid to ease tensions with his father ahead of his UK return, Prince Harry has offered to share his diary with the palace.

Earlier this month, Prince Harry's visit to Angola – where he followed in the footsteps of his late mother Diana by walking through a minefield – dominated news headlines around the time of Queen Camilla's 78th birthday.

Photos from Harry's time in Africa dominated the front pages of newspapers and magazines, in some cases pushing Her Majesty's official birthday portrait to inside.

The sharing of schedules would prevent Harry's events overshadowing the royal family's.

"Before that meeting between their aides in London, conflicts of interest or clashes of publicity were relished and even perhaps encouraged by the Sussexes," a source told the Mail on Sunday.

"If the royal family have full sight of his movements they can at least plan accordingly. It's a significant gesture."

The meeting between Harry and the King's teams, at a private members' club near Clarence House on July 9, also comes as rumours swirl that Netflix won't renew its contract with the Sussexes when it expires in September.

The timing of the so-called peace summit is being viewed by some as suspicious with the end of the Netflix deal leaving a very big financial hole for Prince Harry and Meghan.

Planning is also well underway for the Invictus Games 2027, which will be held in Birmingham, returning to the UK for the first time since its launch in 2014.

Back then, Harry was supported at the event by his father and brother.

Arguably his greatest project to date, the Invictus Games would provide the perfect opportunity for Harry to be seen alongside his family again under happy circumstances.

The King's diary will already have events pencilled in, with Queen Camilla to celebrate her 80th birthday in July, 2027, on the final day of the games.

A sharing of schedules could prevent a clash but also provide ample opportunity for a long-awaited reunion.
