Prince Harry being kept 'in the dark' about King Charles' cancer battle as they grow further apart

The Duke of Sussex's relationship with King Charles has become more "distant" according to a source, with Prince Harry's calls and letters to his father "going unanswered", People reports.

The news comes after Harry, 40, traveled to London for a hearing in his ongoing battle over the removal of taxpayer-funded police protection in the UK following his resignation as a senior working royal.

It is understood Harry didn't see his father during the brief trip. That weekend, he also skipped his close friend Charles, Lord Vivian.

There are also reports Harry hasn't been kept informed on his father's health challenges including his recent hospital stay after he experienced "side effects" during his "ongoing medical treatment for cancer"

Prince Harry reportedly found out about this like the rest of the world, via news reports.

It's a sad state of affairs for the Duke of Sussex who now lives in Montecito in the US with his wife Meghan Markle and their children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

Harry has seemingly become estranged not only from his family but from the friends he grew up with.

Buckingham Palace's reluctance to share personal details with the Duke of Sussex may be due to concerns over the sharing of that information.

The British royal family is famously tight-lipped about such information, with both Charles and the Princess of Wales failing to disclose the type of cancer they have been treated for.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made a career from sharing personal information about themselves and the British royal family during an interview with Oprah Winfrey shortly after their move to the US in 2021 and then in their Netflix series Harry & Meghan released in 2022.

Harry went even further in his 2023 memoir Spare, detailing the fracturing of his relationships with key family members including his brother Prince William.

Prince Harry has also broken royal protocol by waging very public fights with news outlets over privacy breaches and the UK government about the removal of his police protection.

The last time Harry spent time with his family was when he attended his father's coronation in 2023 although he attended the event solo.

The royal has cited security concerns following the removal of police protection as his reason for not bringing his family back to the UK.

King Charles can be forgiven for prioritising his relationship with his eldest child, Prince William, who will one day be king.

The Prince and Princess of Wales remain close to King Charles, with the Princess of Wales and Charles in particular forging a strong bond during their respective cancer battles.

While King Charles' battle continues, the Princess of Wales announced she was in remission from the disease in January 2025.
