Prince Harry's book to 'focus heavily' on the death of his mother

Prince Harry's memoir will "focus heavily" on the death of his mother according to a royal source.

Angela Levin, royal commentator and author of Harry: Conversations with the Prince, says she's been informed by a "well informed source" that Harry, 36, will devote a considerable amount of time in the book discussing the death of his mother Princess Diana in 1997.

Levin tweeted: "I've been told by a well informed source that Harry's memoir will focus heavily on the death of his mother Princess Diana, and who he blames.

"It was a terrible tragedy but sad the man can't move on."

Prince Harry has spoken extensively over the years about how the loss of his mother impacted his life, including during a speech marking the 10th anniversary of her death during which he described her as "our guardian, friend and protector."

"She never once allowed her unfaltering love for us to go unspoken or undemonstrated. Behind the media glare, to us, two children, she was quite simply the best mother in the world," he added.

Prince Harry recently returned to the UK to unveil a statue of his mother alongside Prince William at Kensington Palace on what would have been her 60th birthday on July 1.

The Duke of Sussex announced this week he would be releasing a memoir to be published by Random House, his £14.5m (AUD $26.9m) advance to be donated to charity. It is due out in late 2022.

The royal has reportedly been working on the book with the help of Pulitzer prize winning writer and journalist JR Moehringer who worked with tennis great Andre Agassi's 2009 memoir Open.

The project was confirmed in a statement published on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Archewell website. It reads: "For the very first time, Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex will share the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.

"His intimate and heartfelt memoir will cover his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan and the joy he has found in being a husband and father.

"Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait — one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story. Prince Harry will be donating proceeds to charity."

Harry commented in the statement: "I'm writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become. I've worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story — the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned — I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.

"I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I've learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that's accurate and wholly truthful."
