Public opinion for Prince Andrew is at its lowest ever, new YouGov poll finds

It's perhaps no surprise in the wake of the latest Jeffrey Epstein-related drama for Prince Andrew, that his popularity has plunged.

However, just how far it's fallen is a new record for the scandal-plagued royal.

A new YouGov poll indicates 91 per cent of "Britons now say they have a negative opinion" of the former Duke of York, up from 87 per cent in August, following details which came to light in September that indicated Andrew remained in contact with the convicted sex offender longer than he previously admitted.

That also came hot on the heels of the release of Entitled, a biography about Andrew and ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, which detailed the association between the royal and disgraced financier along with new insights from former staff.

A posthumously released memoir by Virginia Giuffre, titled Nobody's Girl, further tarnished his image as she detailed three occasions she claimed they had sex when she was a teenager. Prince Andrew denies all allegations.

It's the highest ever negative score recorded by YouGov for the embattled royal, coupled with the joint-lowest on record at the other end of the scale - with only 4 per cent seeing Prince Andrew favourably.

While King Charles was heckled over his brother's association with the convicted sex offender during a recent walkabout, the monarch's rating hasn't been impacted.

He's at a 62 per cent positive, up from 59 per cent in the August survey.

In a separate poll by the agency on the King's handling of the situation, people are split - 33 per cent say His Majesty has "handled the issues surrounding the revelations about Prince Andrew's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein fairly well".

While 28 per cent of those surveyed said they "don't know", 18 per cent said "fairly badly", 14 per cent said "very badly" and 7 per cent believe the situation's been handled "very well".

The renewed scrutiny surrounding Prince Andrew's association with the paedophile led him to relinquish his Duke of York title as well as knighthoods and other honours.

The fallout might also see him moved out of Royal Lodge - his 30 bedroom home in which he lives rent-free with Ferguson - despite an "iron clad" lease with the Crown Estate.

Prince William, who has reportedly been involved in the negotiations of what would effectively be an exit package for his uncle, maintains the top spot in the royal poll with a 76 per cent approval rating.

He's followed closely by wife Catherine on 73 per cent and Princess Anne on 70 per cent.

Prince Harry and Meghan rank just above Prince Andrew at the bottom of the list on 28 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively.
