Prime Minister Anthony Albanese lets slip major royal is heading Down Under this year
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has let slip a major royal secret.
Speaking with Sydney radio host Kyle Sandilands on air this morning, the prime minister confirmed that he is expecting a visit from a major royal figure.
According to Albanese, Tasmanian-born Queen Mary of Denmark and her husband King Frederik X will soon be making the trip Down Under.

"Queen Mary is coming here," Albanese revealed on KISS FM radio this morning, per The Sydney Morning Herald.
"She'll be here – I'm not sure that we've publicly released the dates, but it's quite exciting. Queen Mary and King Frederik."
A visit from Queen Mary and King Frederik has not yet been confirmed by the Danish palace but a major event taking place in April could be the reason for their potential visit.

The Women Deliver 2026 conference will be held in Melbourne on April 27-30 and will see advocates and champions come together to advance gender equality.
Queen Mary has long been a supporter of Women Dliver and has previously attended its conferences in Kuala Lumper, Malaysia, in 2013, and in Vancouver, Canada in 2019.
She was also present when the event, which is held every three years, came to Copenhagen in 2016. Mary was there in her role as patron of Women Deliver.
This being so, there is a chance Mary could travel to Australia for the conference, which will take place in Australia for the first time.

Queen Mary acceded to the throne in January 2024, becoming the first Australian-born queen of a European monarchy.
Despite her new life of royalty since marrying Frederick more than 20 years ago, Mary has returned home almost every year for private holidays.
She was last spotted on Australian shores in December 2024 with her youngest daughter Princess Josephine on the sands at Sydney's Bronte Beach.
Mary last carried out an official duty in Australia on April 28, 2023, riding a bike through Sydney's CBD on a one-day solo visit focused on sustainability and green energy.

It has been over ten years since Mary and King Frederik, visited Australia together in an official capacity.
Their last tour was in 2013 when they came to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House, designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon.
