When Meghan Markle wed Prince Harry on Saturday, eagle-eyed viewers were quick to accuse her of neglecting to follow a royal tradition: curtsying to Queen Elizabeth II.

Several Twitter users claimed the Duchess of Sussex, 36, skipped the dutiful gesture as she prepared to walk back down the aisle and exit St George’s Chapel with her husband.

“Could someone please tell me why she did not curtsy to the Queen? Is this a new protocol? Because she is American? Because she forgot?” another asked.

An etiquette expert also chimed in, tweeting, “Meghan - did you forget to curtsy to Her Majesty? I will have to lie down for months if you did forget.”

Some speculated that as Meghan was still an American citizen, she wasn’t yet required to embrace the formal greeting.

Other royal customs she ticked off include having a sprig of myrtle in her bouquet, then placing the flowers at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey after the ceremony.
