King Felipe and Letizia watch on proudly as Princess Leonor graduates from military school

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain have watched on proudly as their eldest daughter, Crown Princess Leonor, graduated from military school.

Princess Leonor, 18, is now qualified as a junior army officer.

The King and Queen travelled to Zaragoza in Northern Spain with younger daughter Infanta Sofia for the ceremony.

King Felipe handed out the new appointments at the General Military Academy, including to his daughter.

The proud father presented Princess Leonor with a badge, after which she saluted him.

She also received her ensign's commission at the Spanish General Army Academy making official her status as a junior officer.

After presenting his daughter with the badge and ensignia, Felipe lovingly placed his hand on her shoulder before she stood next to him.

Queen Letizia was seen embracing her daughter following the formalities as Infanta Sofia smiled.

King Felipe also attended Zaragoza military academy from 1985 until 1988.

Princess Leonor will continue her training, which will span three years; she has completed one year.

Following her time at the academy she will move on to the General Air Academy.

Queen Letizia chose a white floral dress and Infanta Sofia chose a white stripped dress for the occasion.

The academy operates like a boarding school, with as many as 12 other students staying in a cabin with Princess Leonor.

The royal has waived her right to claim a salary during her time with the academy.

The last time the family were together for a public event was for the 10th anniversary of King Felipe's proclamation in June.

During the ceremony Leonor and Sofia took to the stage and gave a surprise speech.

"Thank you for joining us in remembering that in these 10 years, we have learnt from our parents what the commitment that the four of us have with all Spaniards means," they said.

"Now, I would like you to join us in a toast to our mother and father, to our Kings.

"Because since we were born, we have been taught the value of this institution, of the Crown, its usefulness to our society and its purpose of serving everyone."
