King Charles III to take 'one month' off work following prostate procedure

King Charles III is expected to take a month off from public events as he recovers from prostate surgery.

Charles, 75, underwent a procedure to treat an enlarged prostate at the London Clinic last week. It is typically advised that those who have undergone this procedure rest for up to four weeks.

It is also understood that Queen Camilla has been urging the monarch to slow down ahead of treatment, knowing his preference to keep busy.

Sky News royal correspondent Laura Bundock reported there will now be a "period of recuperation" for the King, who will attend to state matters while in hospital via the red box of government papers presented daily to the monarch.

Charles reportedly carried out private duties on Thursday ahead of being admitted to the London Clinic for the procedure.

Camilla, 76, has been spotted visiting her husband each day during his hospital stay. When asked how he is, she responded: "He's fine, thank you," The Sun reports.

Buckingham Palace reported Charles would undergo treatment for a benign enlarged prostate the same week Kensington Palace released a statement explaining the Princess of Wales was admitted for planned abdominal surgery.

Both royals underwent their procedures at the London Clinic.

A statement from Buckingham Palace released on January 17 read: "His Majesty's condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure."

"The King's public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation," the statement continued.

"In guidance: His Majesty was keen to share the details of his diagnosis to encourage other men who may be experiencing symptoms to get checked in line with public health advice."

Charles subsequently cancelled meetings and events upon doctor's advice.

The Princess of Wales' surgery took place on January 16. She is expected to remain in the facility for up to two weeks and continue her recovery for up to three months from home.

It is understood Charles visited with his daughter-in-law ahead of his procedure.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman previously said the King was "admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment".

The spokesman added: "His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness."

Catherine isn't expected to return to duties until Easter and will miss the BAFTAs on February 18 and the St David's Day parade on March 1.

She will also miss out on the St Patrick's Day parade on March 17 and isn't expected to attend church on Easter Sunday on March 31.

Prince William has been spotted visiting his wife at the London Clinic and it is understood she is staying in touch with her children via FaceTime.

Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight and Prince Louis, five, are busy with the new school year at the Lambrook School in Windsor.
