Camilla's 'unusual' move as Charles undergoes procedure

While visiting loved ones at the hospital is considered a given for most families, this is not the case for the royal family.

It makes Queen Camilla's stay at the London Clinic, where King Charles has just completed his treatment for his enlarged prostate, somewhat unusual, say experts.

"Queen Camilla has gone into the hospital with King Charles," shared royal expert Chris Ship on X, formerly Twitter.

"Whilst this might seem normal for most families, it is very unusual for the royal family to accompany their spouse like this (the late queen and Prince Philip always went into hospital on their own.)"

Camilla stayed at the hospital for six hours, finally leaving her husband's bedside at 3pm, after which she greeted well-wishers outside the hospital and assured them that the King is "doing well".

Charles and Camilla also took the time to visit Catherine, the Princess of Wales, as she recuperated after her abdominal surgery last week at the same hospital, the London Clinic, before Charles was admitted for his own treatment.

A statement from Buckingham Palace today read, "The king was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment.

"His majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness".

In the wake of the monarch's news that he suffered from the condition, NHS England has said that the "enlarged prostate" page on the NHS website has received 26,170 visits in 48 hours, including another 9760 visits on Thursday, compared with a daily average of 1400 visits earlier in the week.

This aligns with his wishes, with the 75-year-old being "very keen" that the issue be destigmatised with the news of his diagnosis.

Buckingham Palace's initial statement about the diagnosis read: "In common with thousands of men each year, the king has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate."
