The evening ended with the lavish state banquet which marked the first state visit in nearly 100 years by a Muslim leader during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a unique move for a state visit, the royals skipped the formal luncheon earlier that day out of respect to the Muslim president, who is fasting for Ramadan.
This also marks the first state visit by a Nigerian leader in 37 years and the first to be hosted at Windsor Castle.
Several notable Nigerian and British-Nigerian celebrities were also in attendance.
It's become something of a tradition for the Prince and Princess of Wales to greet their international visitors during state visits in recent years.
Kate and William joined the Nigerian President and his wife at the start of the state visit, where they officially greeted them at Windsor hotel.
The Princess donned a dove grey, double-breasted blazer coat dress by British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker.

The look, understood to be the first time the princess has worn one of Coker's designs, was accessorised with a matching headpiece and Hugo Boss pointed-toe pumps.
Kate added the Collingwood Pearl drop earrings, which previously belonged to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.
