The Duchess of Cambridge has re-worn one of her favourite suits, a crisp two-piece outfit by Alexander McQueen.

Kate chose the look for day five of the Commonwealth Games, attending a series of events with Prince William and Princess Charlotte on Tuesday.

And with just a few tweaks, Kate has shown just how versatile a white suit is.

It could even be the hardest-working outfit in her extensive wardrobe.

Made by Alexander McQueen, the suit doesn't come cheap but Kate – in yet another example of her penchant for being thrifty – has mixed and matched the suit with various other pieces to create entirely new looks.

This year alone, Kate has worn the outfit in at least four different ways.

The Grain de poudre wool blazer retailed for $2100 and the matching slim-leg trousers $1000.

The duchess also has the wide-leg version of the pants, which sold for just over $1500.

Most recently Kate wore the jacket and cropped trousers to the Commonwealth Games on August 2, opting for an all-white ensemble.

The only hint of colour (the duchess didn't wear her blue sapphire engagement ring) were Kate's black-toed beige sling-back flats with a pearl buckle, by Camilla Elphick.

In late June, the duchess went with the all-white look at Waterloo Station for the unveiling of a monument dedicated to the Windrush Generation.

But that time Kate chose the longer length wide-leg pants, allowing her to wear white heels.

She accessorised with a white bag by Mulberry.

Those wide-leg trousers were first seen on the Duchess of Cambridge in the Caribbean, during her and Prince William's royal tour celebrating Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee.

While not the most important part of the royal tour, Kate's wardrobe managed to give the couple a much-needed PR boost amid growing outrage over Britain's role in the slave trade, which was a dominant theme of the tour.

Kate wore the white trousers on the tarmac as she and Prince William departed Belize for leg two in Jamaica.

She paired the white trousers with a vintage YSL jacket, reportedly purchased during her university days, a Mulberry bag and Aquazurra stilettos.

Days later the white suit was back but this time with it slim, cropped leg trousers.

Kate's business-like attire was appropriate for the events of the day, which included a speech at the Shortwood Teacher College as part of her Early Years education project.

She brightened up the white by wearing an orange blouse by Ridley London.

The duchess carried a vintage bag, purchased from Willow Hilson Vintage, and an adjustable pearl bracelet by local designers Steelz and Mantraz.

In Kate's first official speech of the Caribbean tour, she praised the ground-breaking work being done at the college in "building healthy children".

A white suit seems to be the go-to chose for royal ladies with several wearing near-identical looks of late.

On June 28, Spain's Queen Letizia wore a white power suit by Carolina Herrera to host US First Lady Dr Jill Biden in Madrid while the NATO Summit was underway nearby.

And in April, the Duchess of Sussex wore a white suit during the Invictus Games at The Hague.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has also been seen wearing white suits over the years.

One of her most stylish looks was seen in Melbourne in 2011 during her visit to Australia.

Most recently, Princess Isabella wore her mother's three-piece white suit for her confirmation in April.

The suit, by Italian luxury brand Max Mara, was previously worn by Princess Mary in 2017 and again in 2019.
