Princess of Wales takes on gruelling physical challenge following cancer recovery

The Princess of Wales has just completed a gruelling physical challenge as part of a fundraising effort to give back to the hospital where she underwent cancer treatment.

This comes just over a year after the royal shared a video announcing she was in remission from the disease in January 2025.

The royal scaled the highest peaks in England, Scotland, and Wales for the Three Peaks Challenge, trekking a combined 37kms and 3,064m. Prince William and their three children, as well as the Princess of Wales’ parents and her brother were waiting for her at the finish line.

The princess completed the challenge on Saturday night, having been given 24 hours in which to do so. A fundraising page has been set up for those who wish to give to the important cause.

The royal has since shared an emotional social message alongside a photo showing her at the summit of Ben Nevis in Scotland at the mountain’s trip point, a concrete triangulation pillar.

“Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in this country hear the words no one wants to hear,” the royal wrote.

“What follows is a path that tests every part of who we are: physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. The Princess of Wales said she took on the challenge both as a “physical endeavour” but also to “explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back”.

“The Royal Marsden is a place that holds great meaning for me and whose care and expertise are life-changing for so many people,” she continued, adding that she also wanted to raise awareness of “the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare”.

“Every individual is different, and ensuring there is a whole person approach to care enables those living through cancer to manage the deeply personal challenge of diagnosis.

“Holistic therapies complement clinical pathways and support patients’ ability to maintain their wellbeing, resilience and quality of life during an exceptionally difficult time.

We have an opportunity to reshape what the future of holistic cancer care looks like, enabling more people, nationwide, to access the kind of personalised support that can help make a meaningful difference during and after medical treatment.“This challenge will support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, helping to transform access to, and understanding of, holistic care that will enhance recovery and healing for patients across the UK.”

She ended the post by saying: “Healing, whether personal or collective, is not just about fixing what is wrong. It is about finding balance in how we live. Between effort and acceptance, between control and trust, between thinking and simply being.

The Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, just a month after King Charles revealed he had been diagnosed with the disease.

While the princess’ treatment has been completed, King Charles’ is ongoing. The type of cancer the pair had been diagnosed with has never been revealed.

It is understood that the Princess of Wales is the first member of the Royal Family to complete the Three Peaks Challenge which is attempted by approximately 30,000 people each year.

The challenge begins at Ben Nevis in Scotland, followed by Scafell Pike in England, and finally at Mount Snowdon in North Wales.
