The Princess of Wales will carry out two engagements tomorrow in what some are seeing as a show of defiance while Prince Harry is in the UK.

Kensington Palace announced the new events for Catherine on Tuesday evening Australian time, to take place on Thursday.

The news comes one day after Kate joined her husband Prince William at a morning tea to honour the late Queen Elizabeth II in what was a surprise outing for the princess.

Initially, Kensington Palace had said Prince William would be at the engagement only but Kate surprised everyone by appearing at his side on Monday.

It was yet another example of Kate agreeing to do what she can, when her health allows for it, following her cancer treatment last year.

They were at the Sunningdale branch of the Women's Institute, in Windsor, on what was the third anniversary of the Queen's death.

The organisation holds a special connection to Her Late Majesty as she was a member for 80 years, joining in 1943 and serving as President of the Sandringham group from 2003 until her death.

Over tea and cake, Prince William said that he "can't quite believe it has been three years already" since the death of his grandmother.

Kate will "celebrate the unique skill, creativity and craftsmanship of British textile manufacturers," Kensington Palace said.

"Her Royal Highness's visit will highlight the rich heritage of the British textile industry and celebrate the joy found in working in the creative industries," the palace added.

Kate has an interest in British textiles and the industry's role in the UK clothing industry.

And in September 2023, she visited textiles manufacturers in Leeds and Lancaster where she learnt more about the heritage, history and innovation of the industry.

The princess is slowly returning to a busy diary of engagements after announcing she was in remission from cancer, in January.

In July, she described her diagnosis and chemotherapy as a "rollercoaster".

"You're not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to," Kate said, as she visited a hospital in Essex.

Kate said that during treatment "you put on a sort of brave face" but afterwards it can still feel "really difficult".

Her two engagements this week are yet more positive signs of her improving health.

But others have suggested there is more to it.

The Mirror's body language expert Judi James said Kate might want to keep herself busy to avoid any awkward encounters with her brother-in-law Prince Harry, who is back in the UK.

The Duke of Sussex returned on Monday and has carried out two engagements since then. His brother, Prince William, has also been out in London at official engagements.

"Kate and Harry used to be so close," James told the publication.

"There's a huge difference between being unavailable and appearing to actively shun someone, and the movements of the royals [on Monday] suggest they are very mindful of the dangers of the 'Harry effect' on their own image and popularity."

Prince Harry was in Nottingham on Tuesday, while Prince William was in London.

On Wednesday, both brothers will again be out in support of their causes.

Much of the talk around his visit has been whether or not the duke will see his father, the King. The monarch's diary is said to be free of engagements this week.
