James Corden on the side of Prince Harry he wanted to show in TV interview

James Corden says he wanted to show his viewers the side of Prince Harry he's known for "a very long time" in their TV interview earlier this year.

The Duke of Sussex spoke candidly about his royal exit and life in the US in a 'Carpool Karaoke' segment on The Late Late Show With James Corden that aired February.

Speaking to Deadline, the British actor said the interview wasn't heavily promoted beforehand to avoid the speculation that inevitably follows Harry and his wife Meghan.

Corden added he was "really proud" of the interview, which aired roughly a week before the Sussexes' hotly-anticipated tell-all with Oprah Winfrey.

"It was the first thing that Harry had done since stepping down or stepping away from the royal family," he continued.

"I've known him a very long time, and so we wanted to show the person that I know, the person I've known for a long time.

"We just wanted it to be judged on what it was and what it is without a sort of massive speculation leading up to it, such as the nature of the way that people talk about him and Meghan."

The 17-minute segment saw Corden collect Harry in a double-decker tour bus for a drive around Los Angeles, the pair enjoying a rocky high tea on the rooftop.

The pair covered everything from how the demands of the royal spotlight had impacted Harry's mental health, to how son Archie kept in touch with his great-grandparents Queen Elizabeth and the late Prince Philip.

Meghan also briefly featured in the segment via a FaceTime call with Corden.

Corden and Harry have been friends since roughly 2011; according to People, they ran in the same social circles in London.

The comedian, his wife Julia Carey and their three children moved from the UK to Los Angeles in 2015. The Sussexes followed suit after their 2020 royal exit.

The couple attended Harry and Meghan's 2018 royal wedding, with Corden emceeing and even performing during the evening reception.
