Grace Kelly's granddaughter paid homage to the famous Hollywood screen siren by recreating one of Kelly's most iconic looks for a charity gala.

Camille Gottlieb explained her decision in a post on social media on Monday, days after attending the Monaco Red Cross Gala alongside Prince Albert and Princess Charlene.

"I was able to pay tribute to my grandmother with this beautiful dress," the influencer captioned a carousel of images on Instagram, thanking designer Elisabetta Franchi.

The 27-year-old had worn a dress by the Italian designer to an event last year and decided to re-team with them when they offered to create a piece inspired by her grandmother's ensemble from the 1954 Hitchcock film Rear Window.

"I loved the idea," Gottlieb told French magazine Gala.

"It's not an exact replica: the petticoat is longer, and they added embellishments."

Kelly wore a full tulle skirt in white with black detailing, a black belt and a navy boatneck top in the movie and accompanying promo shots.

The influencer donned a more slimline skirt with an added slit and wore a sweetheart neckline for the black-tie event.

Instead of the detailing on the skirt, Gottlieb added crystal detailing from the bodice down to the skirt, giving it a more evening dress feel.

The royal rounded out the look with Cartier jewels and gave close up shots of her outfit online.

Gottlieb recalled her first fitting in Bologna while talking to the magazine and described being "very moved" and "unable to speak".

"My grandmother was a fashion icon," she said.

"I think it's a nice way to evoke her, without falling into clichés, without adopting the total look.

"I'm often told that I look like her. It's a very nice compliment, perhaps the best ... But I'm not trying to mimic her."
