The Swedish royal household has shared moments from Crown Princess Victoria's intense military training earlier this year.

Sweden's future Queen took part in basic military training at the Stockholm Amphibious Regiment in "the spring", the household said in a post on social media on Tuesday.

The 47-year-old took part in the outdoor intensive before starting "Crown Princess's officer training (SOFU), which she is now studying at the National Defence Academy".

The Swedish royal household shared a video from the training exercise on social media, followed by a series of photos.

"During the basic course, the Crown Princess got to immerse herself in personal soldiering skills and practical combat situations," it wrote alongside the images.

"The Crown Princess also received repetition and further development of previous knowledge."

One photo shows the royal getting kitted out for the training, while others show her in a helmet and carrying a riffle.

There's an action shot that shows there was no special royal treatment, with the Crown Princess holding on to a log in muddy waters.

Another shows a ziplining course in the treetops, with the royal looking down below cautiously.

This wasn't the mother-of-two's first such training.

The crown princess carried out basic military training at the Swedish Armed Forces International Centre back in 2003, as well as having photos released showing the royal dressed in camouflage more recently, in 2019 and 2021.

In April, the royal household announced the future queen's training, in what's seen as a big step towards her role a monarch.

At the time, they said the training would be done "to acquire a deeper understanding of tactics, military science and military strategy" with both theoretical and practical elements involved.

Though now the heir apparent, Crown Princess Victoria wasn't the next in line to the throne when she was born in 1977.

The rules of succession officially changed on January 1, 1980, allowing a firstborn daughter to succeed her father, changing the course of the young princess' life.

Following her high school education, which was largely in Stockholm, Crown Princess Victoria moved to the US where she studied political science and history at Yale University.

After that, the royal interned at the Swedish embassy in Washington, DC, and the permanent mission of Sweden to the United Nations in New York.

The royal then returned to Sweden where she studied conflict resolution and international peace promotion at Uppsala University.

Crown Princess Victoria will succeed her 78-year-old dad, King Carl XVI Gustaf and will be succeeded by her own daughter, Princess Estelle, 12 and son Prince Oscar, eight.
